Emerald Ash Borer Trap Monitoring

Bennington is among the four Vermont towns most at risk for the introduction of emerald ash borer (EAB). At the request of the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation (VFPR), BCCD recruited volunteers Terri Armata, Tim Marr, and Nancy Shay to monitor EAB traps placed in the Greenberg Headwaters Park through the summer of 2015. The team collected specimens from a purple sticky trap twice during the monitoring period, and from a green cone trap every other week. The dead insects taken from the trap were frozen and eventually delivered to VFPR for identification, a task for the winter months.
